Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna announced that land titles will be distributed to over 2,000 tribal families residing in line houses in Kodagu within the next two to three months. Speaking at a press conference at the District Administration Building, he stated that the government has identified suitable land in respective Gram Panchayat limits. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will be invited for the title deed distribution ceremony.

MLA Ponnanna noted that more than 1,500 landless individuals have been identified, and government land has been earmarked for distribution in Virajpet, Ponnampet, and Madikeri areas. He urged families without land to register their names at their respective Gram Panchayats. The land allocation list has been prepared scientifically and will be verified in the Gram Sabha.

Ponnanna emphasized that economically weaker families will be prioritized for land distribution, especially Scheduled Tribes. He assured that poor families need not build makeshift shelters on their own, as the government is committed to providing proper land allocation. He also mentioned that a special task force has been formed to tackle wild animal threats, including tigers, bears, and elephants. The Forest Department has permitted the capture of four problem tigers, and operations to drive wild elephants back into the forest have commenced. District President of the Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee Dharmaja Uthappa and P.K. Ponnappa were present at the press conference.
