MLA and Chief Minister’s legal advisor A. S. Ponnanna, speaking after presiding over the Virajpet taluk quarterly progress review meeting held at the Samartha Soudha building in Ponnampet recently instructed Forest Department officials that it should develop drinking water, electricity connection, roads and other infrastructure in Tattalli, Diddalli, Kollihadi, Bommadu, Nagarhole, Balekovu, Gonigadde, Bombukadu, Jungle Hadi, Cheenihadli, Iyirasuli in Ponnampet and Virajpet taluks.
MLA also informed that a meeting has already been held under the leadership of the Chief Minister (CM) and the CM has directed that the tribals should not be disturbed in providing basic facilities. A.S. Ponnanna also warned on the occasion that a case will be registered against the officials concerned if they are found causing trouble or harassing to tribal people.
Speaking further he said that in Ponnampet and Virajpet taluks, community rights are pending in 20 areas under the Forest Rights Act and he suggested that there should be no delay for any reason and added that pending individual rights under the Forest Rights Act should be resolved and instructed that there should be no delay for any reason.
S. Ponnanna, suggested that the basic facilities like adharcards, ration card to Jaenukuruba, Kadukuruba, Bettakuruba, Kudiya, Malekudiya, Yarava, Paniya, Soliga and other tribals should be provided in a time bound manner.
Speaking on the occasion, Taluk Officer of ITDP Department, Naveen, said community rights have been given to 8 cases and informed that the remaining 20 community forest rights are pending and individual rights will be provided under the Forest Rights Act and added that necessary basic facilities will be provided to the tribals at the earliest.
Speaking on the occasion MLA advised that a sincere effort should be made to solve the problems at the root level and said that the problems should be resolved at the local level.
MLA also said that Jaljeevan Mission Plan should be adequately implemented and permission to construct houses on roadside should not be allowed. Necessary facilities should be provided in student hostels. Textbook and meals should be provided as per government guidelines and Ponnanna also suggested that quality work should be carried out by Public Works and Panchayat Raj Department.
Speaking on the occasion MLC V MP Suja Kushalappa said that there should not be any variation in drinking water supply in Hadis. Also, electricity connection should be provided and added that the tribals have preserved the forest from the past and therefore, emphasis should be given on providing basic facilities to them.
Suja Kushalappa also advised PDOs to focus on providing essential basic facilities to the poor in gram panchayat and in this regard, he suggested to make a list of the needy persons and report within 10 days.
District Implementation Committee for Guarantee Schemes Chairman Teethira Dharmaja Uthappa said that guarantee schemes are a priority program of the government and he informed the officials that the facilities should reach everyone by understanding the wishes of the government.
ZP Deputy Secretary Dhanraj, T. P. EO Appanna, Chairman of Taluk Implementation Committee of Guarantee Schemes Kalemada Prashant Appiah, Johnson, Taluk level officials, PDOs and others were present in the meeting.
