Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) Director Harshal Goel speaking at a meeting at the National Informatics Centre in Madikeri recently directed the authorities to stay alert and take precautionary measures against natural calamities.
He stressed on the timely sharing of weather forecasts and alerts with the general public. Goel said Kodagu had been receiving heavy nonseasonal rains and it was better to maintain caution at all times.
He said precautionary measures should be taken at sites that were vulnerable to landslides. He also directed the officials to ensure the supply of clean drinking water. He submitted a proposal towards necessary equipment needed for disaster management in the district.
Assistant Commissioner Vinayaka Narvade said nodal officers had been deputed to manage calamities. “A 24×7 control room has been set up to attend distress calls,” he told the meeting.
