Congress leader Nappanda Muthappa opined that the Kasthurirangan report, should be implemented for the survival of the Western Ghats and for the survival of millions of lives in the entire South India.
He also said that he welcomes the Chief Minister’s statement at Madikeri during a press conference recently that the Kasthurirangan report should not be rejected but it has to reconsidered.Â
He also said that the entire areas of Western Ghats should be studied in depth and the sensitivity of all the rivers, lakes, hillocks and a set buffer zone for land conversion for various reasons.Â
He also informed that a comprehensive plan must be prepared and by using all available technical knowledge a CDP picture should also be done until then any land conversion must be banned in the entire Western Ghats, otherwise, it will be difficult to identify dangerous micro-regions of hill collapse, landslides, water bodies bursting.
Napanda Muthappa further said that according to scientists 50% more of the current rainfall may come in future rainy season or drought situation may also arise.
