BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) Dr. Ashwath Narayan has criticised the state government that no other measures have been taken apart from starting care centers in Kodagu district. He visited various rain affected areas of Kodagu district and consoled the distressed people.
Speaking to reporters later, the former DCM urged the government to suggest a permanent solution to the problems caused by floods and landslides.
Heavy rains have caused huge damage in Kodagu district and more funds should be released in the form of compensation to the rain victims at the earliest. For the time being houses should be rented to those who lost their homes and new houses should be built as soon as rain stops, he urged.
All the crops including coffee have been destroyed and the government should provide crop compensation as soon as possible.
Dr. Ashwath Narayan further demanded that the Chief Minister, who is supposed to come to the district, must pay attention to this, he added. Due to heavy rain, many electric poles fell and power lines were damaged. Rural areas are without electricity from last few days and expressed his displeasure that the government has not been able to recruit additional electrical personnel for Kodagu district.
He said that measures should be taken by the district administration, not to harass the poor people by the micro financiers who lend money to poor families due to rain damage.
Dr. Aswath Narayan inspected the rain damaged areas at various places including Kutta, Srimangala, Kakkabbe, Madapur, Shantalli, Toluru Shettali and Mangalore Road.
Former MLA K G Bopaiah, District BJP President Napanda Ravi Kalappa, MLC Suja Kushalappa, General Secretary Mahesh Jaini, BJP Women President Anita Poovaiah, Suvin Ganapathi, Nagesh Kundalpadi and others were present on the occasion.
