All glass bridges in the district should be closed till Sept. 15th…DC

Kodagu Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Venkat Raja after presiding over a meeting regarding natural disaster management at his office hall in Madikeri directed the tahsildars to suspend the unauthorized ‘glass bridges’ in the district till September 15 and also informed that an order will be issued regarding the suspension of the Glass Bridge operation till September 15 from his office.

Glass bridges have been constructed in the district without any kind of safety. How PDOs issue NOC for non-safety of glass bridges. The DC questioned whether it would be enough if the minutes of the meeting were taken and the NOC was issued.  He also warned Panchayat Raj officials that if there are any untoward incidents occur when large number of tourists visits while viewing the ‘Glass Bridge’ who will take the responsibility.  

Speaking further DC said that the district is receiving good rains and there is a possibility of more rains in July and August therefore, the in-charge officials have to pay more attention to the successful management of natural calamities.

DC also informed that a KDP meeting will be held in the first week of July under the chairmanship of the district in-charge minister and the officials should give a complete information report regarding their respective departments by July, 05. DC also suggested that they should study the pending works about their department and attend the meeting. 

Speaking further he said that more attention should be given to government buildings including schools which are in which dilapidated condition since the district is receiving good rains. Information should be given about schools in dilapidated condition and instructed that the engineers of the Panchayat Raj Department to take necessary action in this regard.

Attention should be given to the roads which are connecting to bridges and the conditions of the road to be examined frequently so that road transport will not be disturbed. Dr Venkat Raja warned that necessary action should be taken to prevent complaints from the public for any reasons.

DC also said that accurate information should be provided to the District Administration about the damage caused by high rainfall, including water entering the houses in low-lying areas, and compensation should be given as per rules. 

He also instructed officials, that no one should leave the district headquarters as more rainfall is likely to happen in the coming days. 

Speaking on the occasion District Superintendent of Police (SP) K. Ramarajan informed that more attention should be given to road safety on national and state highways. Complaints are heard when accidents occur so he advised to erect sign boards on frequent accident zones and on dangerous curves. Pot holes and damaged roads should be repaired, he added.

Speaking on the occasion District Disaster Management Expert R M Ananya Vasudev informed that necessary precautions have been taken in the flood affected areas. Assistant Commissioner Vinayak Narwade, district and taluk level officials were present on the occasion.
