Ponnanna Expresses Concern Over Political Debate on Sting Operations and Traps

MLA A.S. Ponnanna has expressed concern over the ongoing political debate in Karnataka surrounding sting operations and alleged traps, stating that the prevailing political atmosphere is worrying and sends the wrong message to society.

Reacting to MLA Ravi Ganiga’s statement that documentary evidence relating to a trap was available, Ponnanna said Ganiga had come from the media field and might possess information about the matter, though he was unaware of the details. However, he felt that state politics should not have reached such a stage.

Karnataka had witnessed several eminent political leaders, but the current developments raised concerns about where politics was heading, Ponnanna said. He described it as unfortunate that politicians, who should guide the younger generation, were instead involved in discussions surrounding sting operations.

Ponnanna Rejects Allegations Against Siddaramaiah

Responding to discussions alleging that an attempt had been made to trap former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and force him out of office, Ponnanna said he had been associated with Siddaramaiah throughout his political career, from its beginning to the present.

“No such incident took place,” he said, expressing regret that speculation on the matter continued.

Ponnanna also pointed out that social media discussions were dominated by such controversies, while pressing public issues, including drought conditions and the state’s financial situation, were not receiving adequate attention. He said these were the matters that deserved serious public debate.

Misuse of Social Media a Cause for Concern

Ponnanna warned that social media could be misused to distort information and present it in a misleading manner. The ability to edit and manipulate content to make it appear different from the original was a worrying development, he said.

Political leaders must act responsibly, he added, stressing that the controversy over sting operations and the broader developments in state politics were sending the wrong message to society.
