Kodagu Vidyalaya’s girls’ hockey team emerged champions at the South Zone-level tournament held at Sanjeevan School in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, earning qualification for the national-level tournament to be held in Amritsar, Punjab, later this month. The girls produced a dominant performance throughout the tournament. They defeated Defence Career Academy 18-0 and Delhi Public School, Mysuru, 6-0 in the league stage.
They entered the final after defeating the Janana Speaker team from Bengaluru 6-0 in the semi-final.
In the final, Kodagu Vidyalaya edged past the host team, Sanjeevan School, Kolhapur, 4-3 to secure the championship. Lakshya Ponnakka captained the girls’ team.
The boys’ team also put up a strong performance, finishing runners-up.
The boys defeated Delhi Public School, Electronic City, 6-0 and S.B. Patil, Ravet, Pune, 2-0 in the league stage before defeating Sanjay Ghodawat 3-0 in the semi-final. They lost 2-0 to Sanjeevan School, Kolhapur, in the final.
Tanish N.G. captained the boys’ team.
Coaches Deena H.D. and Parvathi K.A. played an important role in preparing both teams through continuous training and practice.
The school management, Principal K.S. Sumithra and Head of Administration Ravi P. congratulated the girls’ team on qualifying for the national tournament and wished them success in Amritsar.
