Police have arrested a 57-year-old man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl at Gonikoppa Market.
The accused, identified as Kakera D. Bharat (57) of Kunjila village, was arrested in Virajpet on August 30, within 24 hours of the case being registered.
According to the complaint, the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted near a public toilet at Gonikoppa Market by an unidentified person. Gonikoppa police registered a case on August 28 and launched an investigation.
Police subsequently identified and arrested Bharat and produced him before the court.
A case has been registered under Sections 64(2)(i) and 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 4(1) and 6(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, in connection with Crime No. 111/2026.
