Today was indeed a very memorable day for us in OAK VIEW ESTATE, Kaikeri Village, Gonikoppal, when a group of our tribals dressed very tastefully for KUNDE NAMME ARRIVED AT OUR DOORSTEP SINGING KUNDE NAMAK NAMMA KUNDE KUNDE.
This is an annual tribal festival celebrated in Devarapura temple annually and the day is today.
I enjoyed being with them and danced to my hearts content for about 15 minutes.
COEXISTANCE AND APPRECIATING TRIBAL CULTURE IS OF PRIMORDIAL IMPORTANCE FOR OUR VERY SURVIVAL IN KODAGU. ALL OUR FESTIVALS AND CUSTOMARY TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS ARE CLOSELY CONNECTED TO OUR TRIBAL MOOLANIVASASIS LIKE, KURUBAS, YERAVAS, POLIYAS and the like. Unless we respect their sentiments and join together with them in celebrating their festivals we get isolated in Kodagu as a community.
So let’s all celebrate each other’s festivals together for long term peaceful coexistence in KODAGU WHICH WILL GO A LONG WAY IN PRESERVING OUR OWN CUSTOMARY TRADITIONS AND FESTIVALS.
A more detailed report will be posted about the Namme shortly.
