Two from Kasaragod arrested for attempting to sell star tortoise

The CID Forest Mobile Squad of Madikeri has arrested two persons for allegedly attempting to sell a protected star tortoise illegally.

The accused have been identified as C.K. Sridharan (70), a resident of Madikai in Kasaragod district of Kerala, and Vishnu Acharya (68), also a resident of Kasaragod. Both were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

Acting on credible information that two persons were attempting to sell a star tortoise near the bus stand at KannandaPadubira Circle on the Somwarpet road, officials of the Madikeri CID Forest Mobile Squad conducted a raid, apprehended the accused and seized the reptile.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of CID Forest Unit Deputy Inspector General of Police Sangeeta G. and Superintendent of Police Pawan Nettoor. Police Sub-Inspector Shivashankar of the Madikeri CID Forest Mobile Squad, along with personnel Umesh N.K., Shanantha K.P., Divyashri H.S. and Swami M., participated in the operation.
