Comments:

Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekhar visited the personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who are stationed at the District Cooperative Training Institute hostel in Madikeri, and reviewed preparedness measures.

The NDRF team will inspect vulnerable and flood-prone areas and undertake rescue operations for people and livestock in case of emergencies.

The team, led by Inspector Ram Bhaj of the 10th Battalion of the Regional Response Centre, Bengaluru, has arrived with boats, tree-cutting machines, rappelling equipment, ropes, tents, life jackets, searchlights, oxygen generators, emergency medicines and  communication  sequipment.

As the monsoon has already commenced and moderate rainfall is being experienced, there is a possibility of heavier rainfall in the coming days. In view of this, the NDRF team has once again been deployed in Kodagu district to monitor sensitive areas and remain prepared for emergencies.

A trained dog has also been brought along to assist in locating victims during landslides and other rain-related mishaps. The team has earlier undertaken rescue operations in several areas, including Wayanad in Kerala.

Comprising 30 personnel from different states, the team is prepared to undertake rescue operations in the event of natural disasters.

Speaking on the occasion, DC said the NDRF team will remain stationed at the Cooperative Training Institute hostel and will immediately respond to emergencies caused by heavy rainfall. DC also informed that the personnel would visit vulnerable and flood-affected areas and also conduct awareness programmes in schools and colleges on safety precautions during the rainy season.
