The Kodagu District unit of the BJP staged a protest in front of the Forest Department office, alleging that authorities have failed to take effective measures to prevent repeated wild elephant attacks in the district.

Protesters attempted to storm the office and later blocked the Madikeri-Mysuru highway for some time, raising slogans against the government.

District BJP President Napanda Ravi Kalappa stated that three people had died in elephant attacks in the past two weeks and demanded a permanent solution rather than mere compensation.

Former Minister M.P. Appachu Ranjan said that along with elephant attacks, recent circulars transferring C and D category lands to the Forest Department could severely affect thousands of families in Kodagu.

Former Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah criticised the government for failing to implement its promise of resolving human-wildlife conflict within six months.

Rs 1 crore compensation for families of victims.

Measures to prevent wildlife from straying out of forests.

Chief Conservator of Forests Sonal, who later arrived at the site, assured protesters that their demands would be conveyed to higher authorities.
