The Codava National Council (CNC), led by its president N.U. Nachappa, submitted a memorandum to the district administration on the occasion of International Women’s Day demanding measures for the empowerment of Kodava women.

The memorandum sought constitutional rights for the indigenous Kodava tribal community and 33% reservation for Kodava women through an internal quota. Other demands included granting Scheduled Tribe status to Kodavas, inclusion of the Kodava language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, and special political representation in Parliament and the State Legislature.

The organisation also urged the government to recognise Kodava cultural heritage, provide gun exemption certificates to Kodava women, and introduce welfare schemes such as “Pattak Bhagya” for Kodava brides and “Koopadi Kool Bhagya” for pregnant Kodava women.

The petition was submitted to the President of India and the government through the district administration.

Several members of the organisation participated in the programme.
