MP Yaduveer Wadiyar Raises Pepper Production Issue in Lok Sabha

Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar raised a question in the Lok Sabha regarding the status of pepper production in Kodagu, the impact of exports, support provided to farmers, and the revision of the Minimum Import Price (MIP).

Responding to the query, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada informed that pepper production in Kodagu is expected to increase by around 16 percent during 2025-26 compared to the previous year.

He also stated that India’s pepper exports have grown by 14.72 percent, reaching USD 101.45 million.

Under the SPICED scheme, pepper growers are being supported with tools, training and market linkages. In addition, to safeguard domestic farmers, the Minimum Import Price of ?500 per kg on pepper imports continues to remain in force.
