Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar has appealed to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to revive the stalled Mysuru-Kushalnagar railway project and initiate the land acquisition process.
In a letter to the Railway Minister, the MP stated that although certain preliminary procedures, including the final location survey for the 89-km Mysuru (Belagola)-Kushalnagar line, have been completed, the project has made little progress due to various reasons.
He emphasised that the lack of rail connectivity has adversely affected Kodagu district, particularly its tourism, agriculture and horticulture sectors, which remain heavily dependent on road transport.
The MP pointed out that the project would provide significant opportunities for sustainable tourism, strengthen agricultural and horticultural supply chains, and integrate Kodagu with the growth corridors of Mysuru and Bengaluru.
Yaduveer Wodeyar also urged the Railway Minister to include Mysuru in the Chennai-Bengaluru high-speed rail corridor, noting that the city, despite being a major tourist destination and emerging IT hub, has been excluded from the proposed project.
Responding to the representations, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has assured that an appropriate decision will be taken at the earliest, the MP said.
