Comments:

State Food Commission Chairman Dr. H. Krishna, along with Commission members, conducted inspections of fair price shops, Anganwadi centres, mid-day meal kitchens, the NRC unit and student hostels in Madikeri recently.

During a surprise visit to Janata Bazaar No. 59, several lapses were found, including stock discrepancies and absence of mandatory display boards and weight certificates. Taking serious note, Dr. Krishna directed the Food Department Deputy Director to suspend the in-charge staff on the spot.

The team also inspected the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KoIMS) kitchen and NRC unit, where the Chairman expressed dissatisfaction over poor management and warned of strict action for irregularities. Stressing that poor families depend on government hospitals, he said quality food and medical care must be ensured.

Inspections were also conducted at an Anganwadi centre near Dasawala, a government higher primary school to review the mid-day meal scheme, and a farmer contact centre and pesticide shop.

Later, the Commission visited Somwarpet, Virajpet, Ponnampet and Kushalnagar taluks.
