In view of the arrival of domestic and international tourists for New Year 2026 celebrations, resort, hotel and homestay owners across Kodagu district have been directed to strictly adhere to prescribed rules and regulations.
Owners must record the names, Aadhaar details, full addresses, mobile numbers and vehicle registration numbers of all guests in a register. In the case of foreign tourists, passports, visas and air tickets must be verified and the details entered. Tourists should be provided with complete information on local destinations along with route maps.
Tourists must be informed about the opening and closing times of tourist spots. It is mandatory for owners to reside on the premises, interact with guests regarding their travel plans, provide proper guidance, and inform them about local customs and laws. Care must be taken to ensure tourists do not venture into remote or deserted areas.
The installation of first-aid kits and fire extinguishers is compulsory. CCTV cameras must be installed, with footage preserved for at least 45 days, and systems properly maintained. A visible sign stating “You are under CCTV surveillance” must also be displayed.
Owners will be held responsible for any untoward incidents if precautions are not taken or authorities are not informed, and legal action will be initiated if violations occur. Strict measures must be taken to prevent the use of drugs and illegal substances. Separate bins must be provided for dry and wet waste. The use of plastic drinking water bottles of less than two litres is banned within Madikeri Municipal Corporation limits, and violations will attract action. Tourists should not be encouraged to engage in any illegal activities.
