Yoga Day Celebration Jatha Held in Madikeri

The 12th International Yoga Day will be celebrated on June 21 under the auspices of the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, AYUSH Department, Government of Karnataka, Kodagu District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and AYUSH Department.

As part of the celebrations, a jatha was organised on Tuesday under the joint aegis of the Kodagu District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, AYUSH Department, School Education Department, Yoga Association, Madikeri, Scouts and Guides and the District Police Department. The rally commenced from Gandhi Maidan, passed through the Old Private Bus Stand and concluded at Gandhi Maidan.

Municipal Council President P. Kalavathi flagged off the jatha. Municipal Council member Srinath, District AYUSH Officer Dr. G. Shailaja, Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences’ Dr. Ramachandra Kamath, DPO Srinivas of the School Education Department, Scouts and Guides Head Baby Mathew, Yoga Association President Mahesh Kumar and Yoga and Naturopathy Medical Officer Dr. Arun P.G. were present.

About 400 people participated in the programme. A yoga demonstration was held near the City Police Station.

Addressing the gathering, District AYUSH Officer Dr. G. Shailaja said that yoga and exercise are beneficial for physical and mental health.

“Yoga is not merely a form of exercise. It helps reduce stress and brings balance to the body and mind,” she observed.

She explained that yoga contributes to physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Through breathing exercises, asanas and meditation, it helps reduce stress, improve flexibility and enhance the overall quality of health.

Dr. Shailaja expressed the view that regular practice of yoga contributes significantly to physical, mental and emotional well-being.
