Call to preserve and promote Arebashe customs

The Karnataka Arebashe Samskruthi and Sahitya Academy, in association with Chettalli Cherala Gowda Samaja, celebrated Arebashe Day with great enthusiasm. Speaking as the chief guest at the programme held at the Cherala Gowda Samaja premises, Nidyamale Gyanesh, member of the Karnataka Arebashe Samskruthi and Sahitya Academy, explained the historical growth of the Arebashe language and elaborated on the Shastha traditions followed by Arebashe Gowdas during marriages, as well as the rituals observed at birth and death ceremonies.

He urged the younger generation not to forget their customs and traditions and to preserve and promote them for future generations. He also stated that the Karnataka Academy plans to organise more cultural programmes in the coming days and sought public cooperation.

Elders and coffee growers Maradalu Basappa and Periyana Kushalappa inaugurated the programme.

Society Secretary Ajira Dhananjaya presided over the event, while society’s Special Advisor Mechana Vasu was present on the dais.

Treasurer MukkatiPalangappa welcomed the gathering. Maradalu Janakki Joyappa and Periyana Nandini Udaya Kumar rendered the invocation. Periyana Udaya, Secretary of the Kodagu Gowda Society Union and Joint Treasurer of the Cherala Gowda Society, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana.
