The Karnataka Land Revenue Amendment Bill, 2025, as recommended by the Review Committee, was tabled during the Belagavi session of the Legislature by Hon’ble Revenue Minister Shri Krishna Byre Gowda. Legislators stated that the Bill seeks to address the long-standing demand of Kodagu district by providing for the inclusion of landowners’ names in the land records.

Speaking on the amendment Bill, Hon’ble Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor and Virajpet MLA Ajjikuttira S. Ponnanna welcomed the move, describing it as a solution to one of the most complex and persistent issues faced by Kodagu for many years.

Expressing his appreciation, he said the Bill had been brought forward due to the willpower and commitment of the Hon’ble Revenue Minister. On behalf of the people of Kodagu, he congratulated the Minister and all members of the Review Committee, and emphasised that the legislation should be implemented effectively.      Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok said the amendment Bill was the result of sustained efforts by Ponnanna and detailed deliberations in the Review Committee. He added that the Bill should clearly outline practical methods and mechanisms for resolving the issue.

Referring to the long-standing Jammabane issue, Araga Gyanendra said it had remained unresolved for several years, and noted that the present amendment had been introduced following sustained pressure from Ponnanna and the people of Kodagu. He welcomed the Bill.

Review Committee member Shri Arvind Bellad stated that the various problems faced by residents of Kodagu district were thoroughly discussed during committee meetings, and that the amendment reflected meaningful improvements. Welcoming the Bill, he said its intent was positive and added that, as pointed out by Shri Ponnanna, reviewing legislation through a committee process before its formulation and implementation would be beneficial to the public.
