Emphasising the importance of safeguarding human rights, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Shubha, said that protecting human rights is the responsibility of every individual, particularly in the era of social media.
Senior Civil Judge was speaking at a Human Rights Day programme organised by the district administration at the Deputy Commissioner’s office Hall recently. She observed that while modern technology provides effective legal tools such as CCTV footage, voice recordings and digital evidence, it also carries the risk of misuse, leading to harassment or persecution.

Shubha stressed the need to protect the rights of others along with one’s own rights and cautioned against violating human rights knowingly or unknowingly. Quoting national poet Kuvempu, he said that the Constitution envisages equality and dignity for all individuals.
She further stated that special efforts are required to uplift socially and economically backward sections and ensure access to justice and government facilities. Referring to the concept of ‘VasudhaivaKutumbakam’, She said the world should be viewed as one family beyond caste, religion or status.
Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya said that the voices of the oppressed must be heard and that equal opportunities and respect must be ensured for women, children and persons with disabilities.
Assistant commissioner Nitin Chakki administered an oath on upholding and protecting human rights.
Several officials, representatives of departments and members of the public were present.
