A public-awareness vehicle rally and meeting organised across the district under the leadership of the Kodagu Suraksha Andolana Samiti was held in Cheyyandane to raise awareness about illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Demanding the deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, whom the organisers said posed a threat to national unity and internal security, hundreds of members of the Suraksha Andolana Samiti gathered at a central junction in Cheyyandane and took part in the rally.
Residents gave the rally a grand welcome when it reached Cheyyandane, which falls under the Nariyandada Gram Panchayat, and offered flowers to Bharat Mata.

Speaking at the meeting that followed, Chi. Na. Somesh Somanatha Swamiji, convener of the Kodagu Suraksha Andolana Samiti, called on people to remain alert to activities that could harm the country’s Sanatana heritage, culture and social system.
He said the people of Kodagu were experiencing uncertainty and insecurity. He urged the public to remain vigilant against forces that create divisions within families and society and then exploit them. He also called on people from the Cheyyandane area to attend in large numbers and help make the rally scheduled to be held in Madikeri a success.
Chennanda Sampath, a prominent member of the group, said the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants had recently been discussed in newspapers, the media and on social media. While agricultural activities require workers, he said, there was a need for appropriate verification and monitoring of workers arriving from outside.

He said that farmers who depend on labourers should be careful to maintain details of people working on their land, in workers’ quarters and in other accommodation. Rather than responding only after a problem arises, he said, it was necessary to raise awareness in advance. He praised the awareness rally organised by the Kodagu Suraksha Andolana Samiti.
Sunil Madappa of the Kodagu Suraksha Andolana Samiti and residents, villagers and local leaders from Kokeri, Chelavara, Karada, Arapattu, Podavada and Nariyandada participated in large numbers.
Danoj Kumar Divya welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.
