Innovation meets agriculture as students of Coorg Public School, Gonikoppal, have designed and developed an innovative Solar Smart Scarecrow, a smart crop protection system aimed at helping farmers reduce crop damage caused by birds and wild animals.

The student-built prototype uses solar energy, a solar tracking panel, PIR motion sensors, an Arduino controller, and a sea shell horn to automatically detect the movement of birds and animals and safely scare them away without causing any harm. The system is eco-friendly, energy-efficient, and designed to reduce the need for constant human supervision while protecting valuable crops.

The young innovators developed the project after understanding the challenges faced by farmers, especially the loss of crops due to birds and wild animals. Their aim was to create an affordable and sustainable solution that combines technology with agriculture to support the farming community.

The students will proudly present their innovation at the Shark Tank – Coder U Competition, which was held in Bengaluru on August 8, 2026, where they showcased their prototype before a panel of judges, industry experts, and innovators.

Speaking about the project, the students shared that they hope their innovation will one day benefit farmers across the country by making crop protection smarter, safer, and more sustainable.

Coorg Public School has always encouraged innovation, creativity, and problem-solving through experiential learning. The school’s participation in the Shark Tank competition reflects its commitment to nurturing young innovators who develop practical solutions to real-world challenges.

The Solar Smart Scarecrow is more than just a school project—it is a thoughtful step towards using technology to support agriculture and empower the farming community.
