On 31 July 2026, Dr. K. B. Cariappa, former Dean and Director and former Principal of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KOIMS), who also served as Medical Superintendent and District Surgeon, officially concluded his government service and his tenure of dedicated service to the people of Kodagu. He completed 12 years of distinguished service, during which he led the institution through multiple stages of development, contributing to the enhancement of healthcare services and the introduction and improvement of academic courses.
Dr. Cariappa was appointed Dean and Director of KOIMS on 10 December 2019, following which he oversaw the institution’s operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. He had also served as the in-charge Dean and Director during the devastating floods of 2018.
Dr. Cariappa’s official farewell was attended by Dean and Director Dr. Lokesh, Principal Dr. Vishal Kumar, Medical Superintendent Somashekhar, District Surgeon Dr. Nanjunde, the Chief Administrative Officer, members of the teaching and non-teaching faculty, family members, well-wishers and his beloved students.
Having taught for many years as a Professor of Biochemistry, Dr. Cariappa is now prepared to begin a new chapter in his life and will continue his association with education, contributing to the training and development of tomorrow’s medical professionals.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kallichanda B. Cariappa expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kodagu for their support and affection throughout his years of service. He prayed that Swamy Igguthappa and Goddess Kaveramma would continue to shower their blessings upon the people of Kodagu and expressed his hope that KOIMS would continue to uphold and carry forward its legacy of service and excellence.
