BJP stages protest against Congress; leaders detained and later released

The Kodagu district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest at Squadron Leader Ajjamada B. Devaiah Circle in Madikeri recently, accusing the Congress of attempting to create unrest in the country by allegedly misleading students over the NEET examination paper leak issue.

As part of the protest, BJP leaders and workers raised slogans against the Congress and attempted to march towards the Congress office. Police intervened and detained the protesting leaders and party workers before later releasing them.   Addressing the gathering, former Assembly Speaker K.G. Bopaiah alleged that the Congress was attempting to exploit the NEET issue for political purposes and create unrest in the country.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already assured that the NEET examination paper leak case would be thoroughly investigated and that strict action would be taken against those found guilty. In such a situation, he questioned the rationale behind the Congress protesting outside the Prime Minister’s residence. Kodagu District BJP President Napanda Ravi Kalappa accused the Congress of encouraging agitation over the issue for political gain and alleged that the party was attempting to create instability by supporting the protests.

Former District BJP Presidents Shanteya Ada Ravi Kushalappa and Robin Devaiah, Madikeri City Municipal Council President P. Kalavathi, District BJP General Secretaries V.K. Lokesh and Mahesh Jaini, former Municipal Council President Anita Poovaiah, City BJP President Umesh Subramani, SC Morcha District President P.M. Ravi, and party leaders Ballaranda Mani Uthappa, Yamuna Changappa, Uma Prabhu, Patrapanda Raghu Nanaiah, P.D. Ponnappa, R.K. Chandra, Arun Shetty, Appachettolanda Manu Muthappa, Ketolira Harish Poovaiah, Talur Kishore Kumar, and Bollajira Ayyappa, along with several party workers, participated in the protest. Police had made elaborate security arrangements around the Congress office at Mahadevpet, located a short distance from the protest venue.
