Hemanth, who was undergoing treatment at KR Hospital in Mysuru after being attacked inside Madikeri District Jail, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday night.

Hemanth was the only son of Ravi and Indravathi of Srimangala.

According to police sources, Hemanth had been remanded to judicial custody in connection with a case registered by the Srimangala Police based on a complaint filed by Ganesh, the brother of Rajesh, in a case involving the murder of his parents and uncle.

It was during this period of judicial custody that the attack on Hemanth allegedly took place inside the jail premises. The family had also faced previous incidents of violence. About a year ago, miscreants reportedly set fire to the family’s residence. In another case, the Srimangala Police had registered a complaint against Ganesh in connection with an alleged conspiracy to murder him, reportedly arising out of a property dispute involving a coffee plantation that had belonged to the family for generations.
