The world grapples with pressing sustainability crises that threaten food security and rural livelihoods. Sustainable agriculture offers a vital path forward, harnessing regenerative practices to restore soils, cut emissions, and boost resilience, while drawing young talent back to their ancestral lands with innovative opportunities in eco-farming, agrotech, and community-led enterprises.

Recognising this “The Rani Aiyappa Awards for Sustainable Entrepreneurship” honors individuals who are committed to furthering sustainability through innovative entrepreneurial ventures in Kodagu district.

This Award is a distinguished honor, reflecting the values and legacy of its namesake. The Award and the Foundation established by her family aim to preserve Mrs. Rani Aiyappa’s memory and celebrate her contributions to Kodagu’s biosphere.

Sustainability goes beyond simple actions or practices; it is a lasting legacy for future generations. This principle ensures that coming generations can access essential resources without compromising the well-being of people.

Amidst current global challenges, sustainability is increasingly crucial, offering a path to secure our collective future.

Some of the most urgent concerns include rapid climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions, declining biodiversity, environmental degradation, severe pollution, and the exhaustion of resources.

These issues are pervasive, impacting communities and ecosystems worldwide, and are now threatening the lush and vibrant biosphere of Kodagu.

The Covid pandemic-initiated changes, recent worldwide conflicts and instability have disrupted supply chains and manufacturing. As global economies contract and nations focus inward, there is a pressing need to support entrepreneurial initiatives that attract talent back to the homeland and provide sustainable solutions tailored to local needs.

These problems affect communities and ecosystems everywhere, including the rich biosphere of Kodagu, where environmental abundance is increasingly at risk.

The Rani Aiyappa foundation has as its trustees Mrs. Rani Aiyappa’s three children, Dr. Sunil Muddaiah, K A Subbaiah and  Rohit Kushalappa, and her grandchildren, Raagini, Sathvik, Aditya, Aneesh, Saanchi, and Veda, with the support and encouragement of Mr. K K Aiyappa.

The Award ceremony was a grand event held in the Dental Institute Auditorium on the 8th of May 2026 and the award for 2026, was awarded to Mr Nadikerianda Subbaiah, a sustainable farming expert, apiarist, and coffee planter.
