A well-equipped Kodava Samaja inagurated at Madapura by Ex CM Basavaraj Bommai

Basavaraj Bommai praises that Kodavas are known worldwide for preserving their culture with honesty.

Haveri MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai speaking  after inaugurating the new building of the Madapura Kodava community said that The Kodava community has become an example by preserving their rich and unique original culture in an honest manner and praised the Kodava community for showing its mettle in the world. He said that the honesty of the Kodava people is a must in today’s society and the world also wants honest people more these days.

Speaking further he said that, while everyone is rushing towards modernity, only the Kodava people have adopted modernity along with the foundation of their old culture and have become a strong and rich culture. Basavaraj Bommai praised the Kodava way of life and said that this way of life is a model for all communities.

Bommai  also said that when we include culture in our civilization, which is growing rapidly, our civilization can never perish. Recalling that he had provided a lot of grants for the development of Kodagu  when he was the Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai said that providing grants is definitely not an achievement. By giving the economic resources that the people of Kodagu  had given to the government back to the people of Kodagu, he added.

The Kodavas have the best memory of gratitude in the world. The Kodavas never forget the help given to them. That is why the help given to the Kodavas is always remembered with gratitude and motivates the mind to contribute more, said Basavaraj Bommai.

Speaking  on the occasion,  Kodagu Mysore Lok Sabha constituency MP Yaduveer Wodeyar announced that he would provide Rs. 25 lakhs from the MP’s grant to the Madapura Kodava Samaj Bhavan, and hoped that this would not only be a grant of respect due to the Kodavas, but also a suitable platform for the preservation of Kodava culture.

It is exemplary that the Kodavas community is giving priority to the preservation of their original culture and traditions. He praised the efforts of the Kodavas towards the preservation of their original culture as an inspiration to other communities in Karnataka.

Whenever I go to Delhi, everyone looks at me with respect when I say that I am an MP representing Kodagu. I am proud that the fame of Kodagu is known to everyone, he said. Yaduveer also remembered with gratitude that Basavaraja Bommai was the Irrigation Minister in Karnataka, who provided necessary funds for various irrigation projects in Kodagu and Mysore including K.R.S. Harangi.

Speaking on the occasion,  MLC Mandepanda Suja Kushalappa said that the Kodava samajas are playing a very important role in preserving the greatness of Kodavu culture and announced that he would provide Rs. 10 lakh from the his grant for the remaining works of the Madapura Kodava Samaja building.

Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy President Ajnikanda Mahesh Nachaiah said that this new building is like a new home for Madapura and that the existence of the Kodava people can never be underestimated because of their strong heritage. Mahesh Nachaiah also said with pride that despite having a population of 1 lakh, the Kodava people are famous all over the country for their unique culture and traditions.

Former MLA Mandepanda Appachchu Ranjan said that  during the time of  Chief Minister, Basavaraja Bommai he  had released a grant of Rs. 1 crore for the construction of the Madapura Kodava Samaj building without any problem. Similarly, for the development of the Kodava community, out of the Rs. 10 crore grant given by Bommai, Rs. 5 crore was given to the Kodava Samaj Association and the remaining Rs. 6 crore was given to the Kodava Samaj Association. He informed that the grant was given to all the Kodava Samajas at the rate of Rs. 10 lakh each. Basavaraj Bommai had not only given a grant of Rs. 200 crore for the modernization of the district government hospital in Madikeri, but also gave a grant of Rs. 1 crore for the first Kodava family hockey.

Former Legislative Council MLA Shanteyanda Veena Achaiah said that this building was very necessary for many people in the Madapura area. She said it was definitely a worthwhile effort. Veena Achaiah, who proudly recalled Basavaraj Bommai’s service, said that Bommai was a rare Chief Minister. She also said that Kodagu received a lot of funding because of Basavaraja Bommai, who had great love for Kodagu.

Speaking on the occasion , Satappan, an entrepreneur from SLN, said that, “We started the coffee industry with the coffee given by Chimmi Kuttayya of Polibetta 30 years ago and now we have become a leading coffee manufacturing company in the country with 2,000 employees. We will always remember the contribution made by the people of Kodagu to the coffee industry.” He also praised the Madhapur Kodava samaja as being very well-organized and beautifully built compared to many other damajas.

Madapura Kodava Samaj President Mandepanda Manumedappa said that the construction of the Madapura Kodava Samaj building, the work of which was started in 2006, was estimated at Rs. 5.50 crore. Now, Rs. 4.50 crore has been spent and another Rs. 1 crore is needed for the work. 5 acres of land has been purchased from Madapura Kodava Samaja. There is space for parking 1 thousand vehicles and there is a seating arrangement for 2 thousand people, he said. With the efforts of Appachu Ranjan, who was the MLA at that time, Rs. 80 lakh was received in the MLA grant. He recalled that this well-equipped building could be constructed due to the cooperation of many donors.

Former MLA Mandepanda Sunil Subrahmani, businessmen Vishwanathan, Napanda Muthappa, Commissioner of Tax Department Jayaram, Padmashree Machchanda Rohan Bopanna’s father Machchanda Bopanna, Vice President of the samaja Pasura N. Uthappa, and directors of the board of directors were present on the stage.

Naganda C. Kalappa, Executive President of Madapura Kodava Samaja, rendered the vote of thanks in the program presented by Ajjikuttir Girish and Sunitha. Donors and technical staff who contributed to the construction of the Kodava Samaja  were honored on this occasion.

The performance of Kodava traditional dances by various groups was also an attraction of the program.
