With the monsoon season expected to commence in June, Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar has directed officials to ensure an adequate supply of fertilizers in line with farmers’ requirements.
He was speaking after chairing a Fertilizer Committee meeting with suppliers and distributors at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Highlighting the demand for urea, DAP, and MOP fertilizers in the district, he instructed officials to maintain sufficient stocks. He also emphasized the importance of promoting balanced fertilizer usage to maintain soil health and called for coordinated efforts among officials, suppliers, and distributors.
The Agriculture, Horticulture, Coffee Board, and Spice Board departments were asked to create awareness among farmers regarding appropriate fertilizer usage.
Officials were further instructed to ensure uninterrupted supply and report any issues to the district administration promptly.
Joint Director of Agriculture B.S. Chandrashekhar provided details on the availability of various fertilizers, including urea, DAP, MOP, NPK, complex, and SP fertilizers. He also urged stakeholders to educate farmers about identifying genuine fertilizers to prevent fraud.
