The Codava National Council (CNC) celebrated EdamyaarOndh, the Kodava New Year, with traditional fervour.

A ceremonial puja to Mother Earth was performed at a paddy field in Bettathur village. CNC President N.U. Nachappa conducted the traditional ploughing ritual using a pair of bullocks, symbolizing the community’s deep-rooted connection with agriculture and nature.

Highlighting the significance of the festival, Nachappa noted that Edmaur-1 reflects the Kodava community’s cultural heritage and their bond with the land.

On the occasion, the CNC reiterated several demands, including geopolitical autonomy for Kodava Nadu, recognition as an indigenous community by the United Nations, inclusion of Kodava Takk in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, and recognition of Kodava cultural heritage by UNESCO.
