Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor and Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna said that the state government, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has accorded high priority to Kodagu district over the past three years.

Addressing a press conference at Sudarshana Guest House, he highlighted key initiatives including the announcement of a Tribal Development Corporation and a Kodava Development Corporation in the state budget.

A sports training centre will be established on 11 acres in V. Badaga village to encourage participation in Olympic sports, he said.

Ponnanna added that steps are being taken to upgrade two hospitals in the district and to mitigate human-wildlife conflict through measures such as trenches, solar fencing, and railway barricades, though some work remains pending.

He stressed that both the state and central governments share responsibility in addressing wildlife-related challenges and called for increased central funding.
