DC Calls for Greater Awareness

on Drug Abuse Among Students

A district-level Narcotics Coordination Committee meeting was recently held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner S.J. Somashekar in the presence of Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindu Mani at the Deputy Commissioner’s office hall in Madikeri.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to create greater awareness among school and college students about the harmful effects of drug abuse. He said awareness programmes should also be conducted in medical, engineering, dental and other degree and postgraduate colleges.

He further advised that students should actively participate in spreading awareness even during vacation periods.

Superintendent of Police Bindumani stated that awareness programmes on the dangers of drug abuse should be conducted in schools and colleges at least three days a week. She added that the police department should also be informed and its guidance sought while organising such programmes.

The SP further noted that various departments, including Health and Family Welfare, Drug Control, Social Welfare, Tribal Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare, Minority Welfare, and student hostels, should undertake awareness initiatives within their respective jurisdictions.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Abhishek, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Satish Kumar, District Surgeon Dr. Nanjudaya, Intelligence Department Inspector Surendra T.R., Excise Inspector Chethan, Deputy Director of the Pre-University Education Department Vijay, Physical Education Officer Dr. Sadashivaiah Palled, and other officials shared information related to their departments.
