Continuous learning and responsible reporting are essential for journalists, said Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda while inaugurating a seminar at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan Recenty.

The seminar on Constitution and Journalism, Fact Check and AI in the Newsroom was organised jointly by the Karnataka Media Academy and the Kodagu District Information and Public Relations Department.

Dr. Gowda stressed that while exposing societal issues is vital, freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly, avoiding baseless allegations. He called for accountability and transparency across all democratic institutions.

Senior journalist M.A. Ponnappa said renewed discussions on constitutional values and duties reflect the evolving understanding of India’s democratic framework.

He noted that journalism during the freedom struggle was viewed as social service and highlighted the role of B. R. Ambedkar in shaping the Constitution.

Academy President Ayesha Khanam emphasised the need for constitutional awareness and fact-checking to combat misinformation.

Senior journalist Samiullah underscored responsible language use in media, while Rashmi S., Editor of Sudha Weekly, called for preserving linguistic integrity in journalism. AI expert Rahul Gundala discussed the growing role of artificial intelligence in newsrooms.

The valedictory address was delivered by A. S. Ponnanna.
