Kodagu Deputy Commissioner and President of Pranedaya Sangha, S.J. Somashekhar, paid a surprise visit to the District Government Cowshed at K. Nidugane, Madikeri, to review its functioning.

The cowshed currently houses 37 cattle. During his inspection, the Deputy Commissioner examined the stock of dry fodder, animal feed, and medicines required for cattle management.

Dr. M.C. Latha, In-charge Officer of the cowshed, informed that three outsourced ‘D’ grade employees are working in shifts to manage the facility. The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the green fodder cultivation area and expressed appreciation for its maintenance.

Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Lingaraj Doddamani stated that there is growing demand to accommodate additional cattle. A proposal has been submitted for constructing an additional cattle shed, a dry fodder storage unit, and fencing for the remaining six acres of the eight-acre land allotted to the cowshed to facilitate grazing.

The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the Gobar Gas Unit constructed under the Swachh Bharat Mission on the premises and directed the Panchayat Raj Engineer to expedite completion of the remaining works and make the facility operational at the earliest.
