Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the newly constructed KSRTC bus stand at Shanivarasante, built at a cost of 1.05 crore.
The Minister announced that the bus stand would be named after Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, India’s first Field Marshal, who was born in Shanivarasante, subject to Cabinet approval.

He stated that if land is provided in Kodlipete, a bus stand would be constructed there as well. Additional grants would be sanctioned for concrete works at the Shanivarasante bus stand premises.
Highlighting government initiatives, Ramalinga Reddy said over 670 crore women commuters had benefited from the free bus travel scheme. He added that 10,000 drivers and conductors had been recruited, including appointments on compassionate grounds.

MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda said the bus stand was constructed within a year after land identification and thanked the Transport Department. He also requested a separate KSRTC divisional office for Kodagu and additional buses and staff for the district.
Several public representatives, officials, religious heads and local leaders attended the inauguration.
