Kodagu District Superintendent of Police R.N. Bindumani urged citizens to work together to build a drug-free and healthy society while inaugurating an awareness campaign through a street play on alcohol and drug abuse at Madikeri Government Junior College.
She expressed concern over rising crime and incidents linked to drug abuse, stating that narcotics such as marijuana, heroin and opium are pushing youth towards mental stress and criminal activity. Emphasizing the role of families, she said a healthy home environment can guide youth onto the right path.
SP Bindumani warned that production and consumption of narcotics are punishable offences and urged the public to report such activities to police or by calling 112, assuring confidentiality. The programme was organized by the District Administration and allied departments. A street play by artist E. Raju’s team highlighted the ill effects of substance abuse.
