The Central Government has accorded technical and financial approval of Rs. 94.08 crore for major safety and protection works on National Highway-275 (Bantwal-Bengaluru section), said Mysuru-Kodagu Lok Sabha MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar.
The project, covering the stretch from Sampaje to Kushalnagar (km 78.000 to km 125.000), aims to address frequent landslides and enhance road safety in the Ghat section. The work will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.
Major components include construction of 1,650 metres of RCC cantilever retaining walls, 110 metres of pressure relief walls, 1,910 metres of breast walls, 2,720 metres of chute drains, widening of 1,690 metres of road at 17 locations, reconstruction of two box culverts, and installation of crash barriers and modern traffic signage.
The project, including GST and maintenance costs, will be completed within 18 months, including the monsoon period. The contractor will be responsible for 10 years of maintenance after completion. The MP said work is expected to commence near Madikeri in the last week of January 2026.
