Police have arrested five persons, including a woman, in connection with the death of driver Nawaz, a resident of Harishchandrapura in Gonikoppal.
The arrested accused have been identified as Poornachandra Tejaswi, Kavya, Ashok, Kumar, and Mahendra. According to police, on the night of December 31, Nawaz had travelled in his car to Kunda village, where he was later found lying unconscious on the roadside. He was declared dead after being shifted to a hospital.
Following the registration of a case, police conducted a detailed investigation and apprehended the five accused. Preliminary investigations revealed that Nawaz had reportedly gone to Kunda village late at night and knocked on the door of another driver, Poornachandra Tejaswi, while calling out the name of his wife, Kavya. Enraged by this, Poornachandra Tejaswi allegedly confronted Nawaz and assaulted him with the assistance of Ashok, Kumar, and Mahendra.
It is further alleged that the accused left Nawaz unconscious by the roadside and attempted to portray the incident as an accident by pushing his car into a roadside drain.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Virajpet DySP Mahesh Kumar, with Gonikoppal Circle Inspector Shivaraj Mudhol, Gonikoppal Station Officer Pradeep Kumar, Ponnampet Station Officer Naveen Kumar, and their staff playing a key role in the arrests.
