The Gandhi Priya Award for achievements in the field of journalism, instituted annually by the Samatha Sahitya and Cultural Foundation, Bengaluru, was conferred on Madikeri-based journalist Anil H.T.

The award ceremony was held at Kuvempu Hall of the Karnataka State Kannada Sahitya Parishad in Bengaluru, where achievers from various districts of the state were honoured for their contributions in journalism, agriculture, literature, music, medicine, social service, and industry. Anil H.T. was selected for the award in recognition of his contributions to journalism from Kodagu district.

Addressing the gathering, Samatha Sahitya and Cultural Foundation President Vijay Samatha observed that awards instituted in the name of great personalities are relatively few. He highlighted Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions not only to India’s freedom struggle but also to journalism and social service, stating that the award aims to honour individuals who have excelled in fields close to Gandhiji’s ideals. He added that such recognition serves as inspiration for recipients to strive for greater achievements.

Several dignitaries, including Dr. M.R. Venkatesh, President of Bengaluru Sri Thyagaraja Cooperative Bank, former President of the Bengaluru City District Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Sr. De Paswarnath, and social worker Manandhi Ramesh, were present.
