Senior journalist B.G. Ananthashayan inaugurated the ‘VipraKridotsava’, organised for members of the Vipra community at the Madikeri District Indoor Stadium by the Kodagu Brahmin Education Development Fund in association with various taluk-level associations.
In his address, he urged the Vipra community, which traditionally works for the welfare of all, to extend its activities beyond religious and cultural practices and participate actively in every sector of society. He emphasised the need for unity and collective effort within the Brahmin community and encouraged people to obtain membership in the Kodagu Brahmin Education Development Fund to strengthen its initiatives.

Ramachandra Mooguru, President of the Kodagu District Brahmin Education Development Fund, delivered the introductory remarks. He stated that the Fund has organised the fourth annual Vipra Kridotsava with the aim of uniting the Brahmin community and identifying and promoting young sporting talent. He called upon community members across the district to participate in large numbers, noting that such events play an important role in community organisation.
A district-level tennis ball cricket tournament for the Vipra community will be held on December 14 at 9 a.m. at the Junior College grounds in Virajpet. A district-level tug-of-war competition will also take place at 4 p.m. the same day at a separate location within the grounds. Mooguru appealed to community members to participate enthusiastically.
General Secretary of the Fund, B.K. Jagadish, announced that on December 21, a Madikeri taluk-level chess and carrom competition for Vipra members will be held at the Sri Lakshmi NarasimhaKalyanaMantapa, Madikeri. Competitions in other taluks will follow, with the district-level finals scheduled for January.
The sports festival was officially inaugurated when B.G. Ananthashayan and Ramachandra Mooguru played a round of shuttle badminton. The indoor sports festival featured shuttle badminton singles and doubles, as well as table tennis singles and doubles, across men’s, women’s and senior (above 50 years) categories.
