The Department of Urban Development has issued a notification converting certain rural areas of Ponnampet taluk in Kodagu district into urban local body jurisdictions.
As a result, the rural areas that were earlier included in the taluk panchayat regional constituencies-through the notification dated August 7, 2024-now stand excluded from the existing delimitations. Consequently, the government has withdrawn the previously notified number of elected members and the territorial boundaries of regional constituencies of Ponnampet taluk, as published in the Karnataka Gazette dated October 24, 2025.
The Karnataka Panchayat Raj Delimitation Commission will now revise and reconstitute the number of members and constituency boundaries of Ponnampet taluk as per the prescribed rules.
Exercising powers under Sections 121, 122, 124 and 308(E)(F) of the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993, the Commission has determined the number of elected members for the Ponnampet Taluk Panchayat. The details are listed in Table ‘A’, which specifies the total number of members and the allocation for each constituency.
Further, the areas falling under Ponnampet Taluk Panchayat have been reorganised into nine single-member regional constituencies. The names of the constituencies and the villages included in each have been outlined in Table ‘B’.
The Commission has invited objections regarding the revised number of elected members and constituency boundaries. Objections may be submitted within seven days from the date of publication, i.e., on or before December 1, 2025, 5:00 pm. Submissions may be made online, in person or by post. However, postal objections must reach the Commission by the deadline; late submissions will not be considered.
Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya said that objections can be filed online by accessing the ‘Public Suggestions’ section on the Commission’s portal.
