Deepa Bhasti Felicitated on the occasion

Booker Prize-winning author Deepa Bhasti was honoured during the National Library Week celebrations at the Madikeri District Central Library. She called upon literature enthusiasts to support and preserve libraries by using them actively.

DeepaBhasti described the library as her “second home”, crediting it for shaping her reading habits and improving her literary knowledge. She fondly recalled her membership number, 2184, which she continues to spot in books she has read.

Anil H.T., President of the Kodagu Journalists Association, inaugurated the programme and described libraries as temples for readers. He encouraged educational institutions to organise library visits to promote reading habits among students.

Literary scholar SubrayaSampaje praised the library’s welcoming environment and expressed hope that the Library Week would further increase readership.

District Chief Librarian Surekha shared that the library houses 35,000 books and has 5,500 registered members, with ten libraries functioning across the district under its administration. Assistant Librarian Vijay Nag compered the event.

As part of Library Week, a membership drive was launched, and floral tributes were offered to Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of the library movement in India.
