Kodagu-Mysore MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Wodeyar, speaking at the ‘Vision Kodagu’ interaction hosted by the Kodagu Journalists Association, assured that all Central Government support will be extended for development aligned with the preservation of Kodagu’s environment and cultural heritage.
He emphasized that development should not come at the cost of Kodagu’s identity, and highlighted the significance of homestays and the region’s “Ain Mane” traditions.
Key Issues Raised and MP’s Responses:
Sarfaesi Act & Coffee Growers:
Planters expressed concern over the application of the SARFAESI Act to coffee, classified as a commercial crop. MP Yaduveer stated that while policy revision lies with the state, he had advised banks not to misuse the Act and would raise the issue of insurance for coffee farmers in Parliament.
Railway Connectivity Delay:
The MP blamed delays on the state government’s failure to complete land acquisition, assuring that once done, the Centre will move forward with implementation.
ESI Hospital and Airport Needs:
The MP confirmed that feasibility surveys are underway for both an ESI hospital and an airport. He promised to pursue discussions with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry.
National Highway to Kannur:
Concerns over poor connectivity to Kannur Airport were raised. MP cited environmental clearance issues and emphasized that land acquisition by the state is a prerequisite for any progress.

Online Medicine Sales:
Pharmacy representatives urged a ban on online sales. The MP agreed that unregulated online sales are inappropriate and promised to alert the Central Government.
Tourism Promotion & Worker Migration:
Suggestions were made to promote Kodagu as a tourist destination nationally and monitor migrant labor inflow. MP welcomed both ideas and promised review.
Industrial Development at Kudlur:
Local business leaders requested support to develop the Kudlur Industrial Area. The MP acknowledged the potential and assured cooperation.
Red Cross Support:
Indian Red Cross President B.K. Ravindra Rai requested aid to build the upper floor of the Red Cross Bhavan in Madikeri. The MP responded positively.
Coffee in Army Supply and Local Consumption:
Senior journalist G. Chidvilas proposed using locally grown coffee in the Indian Army and boosting internal consumption. The MP promised to explore this suggestion.
Railway Ticket Booking Center:
MP Yaduveer confirmed that the railway booking center in Madikeri would soon be reopened, with space being evaluated at the DC’s office.
