Three police officers-Inspector B.G. Prakash (Kushalnagar), Sub-Inspector Mahesh Kumar (Ilawala), and Sub-Inspector Prakash Yettinamane (Jayapura)-have been suspended for falsely implicating an innocent man in a murder case.

The incident dates back to November 12, 2020, when a woman’s body was found in Bettadapura. The deceased was wrongly identified as Mallige, wife of Suresh a.k.a. Kurubara Suresh of Basavanahalli, Kushalnagar. The then inspector, B.G. Prakash, filed a fabricated charge sheet implicating Suresh.

During the trial, Suresh consistently claimed his wife was alive. His children and neighbours testified to the same. On April 2, 2025, Mallige appeared in court, confirming that she was indeed alive. By then, Suresh had already spent two years in jail.

The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in Mysuru found the police officers guilty of misconduct. The three officers were suspended pending further disciplinary action.
