MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda chaired the quarterly KDP meeting at the Zilla Panchayat Hall in Madikeri, emphasizing the need for permanent relief measures and relocation for flood-affected families in the constituency.

Dr. Gowda criticized the annual issuance of notices to residents in flood-prone areas and urged the Panchayat Raj Department to identify and resettle affected families. He noted that this year’s monsoon began in May, calling for heightened vigilance across departments.

He collected Gram Panchayat-level data on relocated houses in flood-affected areas and stressed the importance of inter-departmental coordination. T.P. EO Shekhar reported that warning notices were issued to 342 families across several vulnerable villages. Tahsildar Praveen Kumar noted that residents would relocate to relatives’ homes or care centers during emergencies.

Dr. Gowda emphasized the need for preemptive action and directed the Forest Department to remove dangerous trees. He also urged the Engineering Department to manage tree pruning, drain repairs, and to ensure care centers are equipped with essential amenities.                                                                                                           KDP member Shyam Subbaiah highlighted ongoing hardships in the Makkandur Gram Panchayat due to delayed housing. The MLA assured efforts to expedite housing construction.

Assistant Conservator of Forests Pasha stressed that proper permissions are needed to remove hazardous trees. Dr. Gowda directed the CESC engineers to immediately repair damaged electric poles caused by strong winds.

Officials from various departments, including Engineers Bhaskar, Ramachandra, Vijayakumar, and Girish, outlined precautionary measures taken.
