General Thimayya’s Birth Anniversary celebrated in Madikeri

General Thimayya’s life is always an inspiration for everyone. Although there are many leaders, only a few can always be in our minds. General Thimayya was such a great military leader, said Kodagu District Assistant Commissioner Vinayak Navarade.

The Kodagu District Administration and the Kannada and Cultural Department inaugurated the 119th birth anniversary of General Thimayya at the General Thimayya Memorial Hall at Sunny-side, the birthplace of General Thimayya, and Vinayak Navarade laid a wreath at the portrait of Thimayya.

Speaking on the occasion, Vinayak Navarade said that General Thimayya’s life is an inspiration for everyone. The army was his soul and the love for the army was ingrained in his soul. The patriotic spirit of the people of Kodagu has naturally increased. He also wished that in the future, more and more young people from Kodagu would join the army.

I had visited Kodagu when I was in Maharashtra. At that time, I had wished in my mind that it would have been appropriate if I had got the opportunity to serve in the Kodagu district, where the soldiers were stationed. Similarly, after 6 months, I got the opportunity to serve as a Assistant Commissioner in the same district, Vinayak Navarade expressed his happiness.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajnikanda Mahesh Nachaiah, President of Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy, said that an effort should be made to make today’s students aware of General Thimayya’s difficult life and the unparalleled courage he showed in the army.

Mahesh Nachaiah, who called on the students to remember the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, expressed pride that there is no one in the world who can match the military achievements of Field Marshal  K. M. Cariappa and General Thimayya.

Thimayya’s life was very struggling one and Mahesh Nachaiah, who felt that the students should have an understanding of that difficult life, and added  that it is because of General Thimayya’s hard work, that we Indians are leading a peaceful life today.

Mahesh Nachaiah also said that these great soldiers have earned the right to worship them daily by placing photos of Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimayya along with photos of God in the prayer room. He also opined that remembering such soldiers always is the real respect we pay to them.

During the program, A.S Shrisha, a class 9 student of Suntikoppa Government Primary School,  spoke about General Thimayya’s military achievements along with many details on this occasion and won everyone’s appreciation. Armeri School Scouts and Guides’ students Manvi Muthappa and Pyaris sang a National song, while Kodagu Vidyalaya students Anushka Ravishankar, Shreya, Kyathi Prashanth and Shavarri Rai sang patriotic songs. Thimayya Memorial Hall staff Ponnukanda Ramya Machayya sang a patriotic song.

Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Kumar welcomed and thanked.

Madikeri Tahsildar Praveen Kumar, Police Intelligence Division’s Deputy Inspector Medappa, Kannada and Culture Department Officer Manjur Manjunath, Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy member Sanju, District Guides Institute Training Division Commissioner H. Maithili Rao, Pratibha Madhukar, music teacher of Kodagu Vidyalaya, journalists Anil HT, Bollajira Ayyappa, retired Subedar Major Gowdanda Thimmaiah, G T, Raghavendra and many others participated in the program.
