Children planted saplings at Government Higher Primary School at Jodupala and subsequently adopted the saplings that they planted to nurture. This unique initiative was taken as a part of World Environment Day. Go Green and Clean, Swaccha, Suraksha and Samruddha Kodagu and the school jointly organised the programme. After handing over the sapling to each child, they were given the responsibility to nurture it. They were asked to plant, write a name board in front of the plant and nurture it by watering the plants daily. Even parents were also given saplings to plant in the surroundings of the house. Retired Dean of College of Forestry Cheppudira G Kushalappa said, “If we nurture plants, they nurture us when they grow. He also urged people not to fell trees and protect nature.”

Raincoats were distributed to all the schoolchildren on the occasion.
