After presiding over the District Disaster Management Committee meeting in Madikeri recently at his office meeting hall Kodagu Deputy commissioner (DC) instructed concerned officials to give utmost importance to supply of adequate drinking water to the public in urban and rural areas of the district and suggested that the local level authorities have to take appropriate measures as per the situation so that the problem of drinking water does not arise.Â
He also informed that in case of water supply problem, water from borewells located in nearby schools or Anganwadi centers should be used and even if that is also not possible the taluk administrations should proceed with water supply through water tankers.Â
At the taluk level, every fortnight task force committee meeting should be arranged to solve the problems of adequate water supply. The Taluk Nodal Officers should carry out progress review in their area and coordinate with the District Administration to ensure smooth supply of drinking water. If the authorities do not supply water despite the need in urban and rural areas, it will definitely come to the attention of the district administration. Then it is necessary to take appropriate legal action against the concerned officer by the district administration, DC informed.
DC further said that the authorities should give priority to adequate water supply and have to do their work promptly. Water supply details from local organizations in urban areas should be communicated to common people through media every day, he added.
Kodagu Additional Deputy Commissioner B N Veena speaking on the occasion said that it is the responsibility of the animal husbandry department officials to get information from the relevant officer about the fodder situation of the cattle in the district and supply adequate fodder. She instructed officials of that department to take proper steps in fodder supply.
In the meeting, Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department Shekhar, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department Nataraju, Senior Scientist Nagaraju, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department Siddegowda, various departmental officials of district level, Taluk level Tahsildars, T.P. Executive Officers were present.
