The water level has decreased in four major lakes Chatrakere, Gowrikere, Pampkere and Shivakerein Virajpet. It is reported that apart from Nehru Nagara other areas in Virajpet TMC limits have not faced major water crisis.

The water level in Bethri stream has also declined and Cauvery is the major source of water supply to the town.

Tater is supplied either on alternate days or once in three days to wards. In addition, water is supplied through tankers.

However, in case the pre-monsoon shower fails, the water crisis will aggravate in the region.

Presently, the TMC draws water from River Cauvery and borewells to supply water to its citizens. It has to explore alternatives in case pre-monsoon shower fails in the region.

MLA A S Ponnanna through his Ponnamma Subbaiah Charitable Trust has started supplying water for free in Virajpet and Ponnampet.
